Look up at the sky at night. What a glorious sight! And, on August 21, 2017, 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. PDT sky-gazers in North America can look up and see one of the most stellar celestial events visible from Earth: a total eclipse of the sun! California’s own Jet Propulsion Lab (jpl.nasa.gov) offers tips about viewing, including the warning not to look at the sun directly. There’s science behind the event and enjoyment of it so you don’t ruin your eyes and vision. Festivals allow us to see science with whole new eyes as we explore everything from space and the sky to electricity and dinosaurs. As Shakespeare wrote: There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.
