STANFORD, CALIF. — You can’t appreciate the speed, strength and agility of World Number 1 female tennis player until you watch Serena Williams live. Tickets are still available for the Aug. 3-9 Bank of the West Classic at Stanford University where world number one (for 248 weeks) Serena Williams, 33, is likely to dazzle the audience.
Barely out of training pants Serena began training to play tennis in Compton, Calif. at age four. Her family left California when she was nine, but she has returned many times and will be back again in August. This week, however, she played amazing tennis on the Centre Court in Wimbledon where she beat older sister Venus in a Grand Slam match for the first time in six years to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals. “I thought, ‘I’m 33 and she’s 35, I don’t know how many more moments like this you’re going to have,” says Serena.
