Where to See Giant Pumpkins in California

Ron Wallace set a new record several days ago with the world’s largest pumpkin. The pumpkin weighs 2009 pounds, beating out the old Guinness World Record by nearly 200 pounds.  He has broken the world record before. In 2006, Ron Wallace broke the Guinness World Record with a pumpkin weighing 1,502 pounds. It’s not been announced that his pumpkin will go on a road tour and be seen in California, but there are several opportunities to look at some giants and weigh-in your thoughts about being big & beautiful.

TO SEE GIANTS – CALIFORNIA GIANT PUMPKIN CONTESTS 2012

  • Elk Grove, California hosts the Giant Pumpkin Festival October 6-7, 2012.The 18th annual festival is held at Elk Grove Regional Park. The winning entry weighed 1,645.5 pounds several years ago! Highlights will include weigh-off, entertainment, recipe contest and pumpkin boat race. Takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. yourcsd.com
  • Half Moon Bay hosts the Championship Pumpkin Weigh-off at its Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival October 13-14, 2012.
  • The best known pumpkin carver in the west for carving giants is Farmer Mike (Valladao), called the Picasso of pumpkin carvers. He can be seen on stages at major events carving out the most amazing pumpkins you’ve ever seen!  He is set to appear in Half Moon Bay at the 2012 pumpkin festival.
