Sierra Trees Changing Colors

Leaf peeping (watching the leaves on trees change colors) is absolutely spectacular! The trip to Vermont consumes a full day of flying from California and though it’s a wonderful experience, it can take a chunk of your time and money.  The lesser publicized California leaf peeping experience has come into its own thanks to social media and savvy marketers who have discovered there’s tremendous interest in seeing fall foliage close to home. Mono County Tourism, the leader in promoting the Sierra fall change of colors, offers a free printed guide with drive suggestions, a detailed map and many helpful tips and information. See MonoCounty.org/fall-colors, or call 800-845-7922.

Last year’s weather conditions appear similar to current patterns, which means you can go now through mid-to-late October. Below are a few popular “hot spots” from an extensive list of drives you can take!

  • June Lake Loop (Highway 158)
  • Rock Creek Road
  • Virginia Lakes and Green Creek Road at the top of Conway Summit (Highway 395)
