Siskiyou Sled Dog Races a Go?

What’s it gonna take to get some snow around here? That’s what the planners of the Siskiyou Sled Dog Races said last year when the lack of it caused nearly all the annual events to be called off for the 2014 season. The drought is hitting Californians in different ways, but seldom in a good way. In 2015 the recurring theme on the official sled dog races website was: “Evaluating the snow conditions.” Rain is predicted (and possibly snow) before the Jan. 31 evaluation date to determine whether the races will need to be rescheduled from Feb. 7 & 8 to March 14 & 15. In addition to the races there are sled dog rides for children offered, but last year in 2014, they were cancelled due to lack of snow. While events such as these fun races are inconvenienced during drought conditions, the California farmers must make life-altering decisions about culling herds, destroying fruit & nut trees, farm crops, and  etc., all due to lack of rain and water supplies for their farm businesses.
