Sleeping in Pigeon Point Lighthouse Hostel – Don’t Leave on the Light

Published on: August 24, 2012

If you’re looking for an adventure this fall that will “shed a little light” on the coastal experience, try sharing a room at Pigeon Point Lighthouse hostel in Pescadero.  With up to 6 bunks in a room (separated into male and female dorms,) guests are issued  single beds, linens, blankets and towels for around $26.50 per night. Such a deal! Call direct: (650) 879-0633 or toll-free: (888) 464-4872.

The 115-foot Pigeon Point Lighthouse (one of the tallest lighthouses in America) and guest quarters are perched on a cliff 50 miles south of San Francisco. Though sometimes foggy and definitely uncrowded, popular beach destinations such as San Francisco,  Half Moon Bay 25 minutes north or Santa Cruz 50 minutes south provide great dining, entertainment and attractions to keep visitors hopping throughout their stay of up to 14 days.

Pigeon Point Lighthouse has been guiding mariners since 1872. Although the original Fresnel lens is no longer in use, the lighthouse is still an active U.S. Coast Guard aid to navigation using a 24 inch Aero Beacon. Each November, thousands of visitors gather to witness the annual lighting of the original first-order Fresnel lens during a daylong celebration of the anniversary of the first lighting. The event was cancelled in 2011 due to construction, and in 2012 there will be a celebration though no lighting ceremony. Call for details: (650) 879-2120 or check for updates on parks.ca.gov .
