
While the fun side of snow is apparent in mountain resorts such as Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort, there’s a “bigger picture” issue that makes Californians cheer for the white stuff.
Thanks to recent winter storms, the state’s snowpack is expected to be at or above historical averages for this time of year, and will be confirmed when California Department of Water Resources conducts the season’s second snow survey at Phillips Station on January 31st. On average, the snowpack supplies about 30% of California’s water needs, melting in the spring and early summer to meet the state’s water demand in the summer and fall.
