I’ve never played soccer, even though it’s the world’s most popular sport. Even little kids learn it and display much enthusiasm on the field.
Recently, I witnessed a soccer game featuring an energetic group of very young children. One of the most fascinating things about it was the coach’s shouts to his players.
“No, Jake. Kick it the other way.”
“Come on. Kick it out, Chris,” he shouted impatiently at an athlete whose gym shorts were about a third of his size.
Parents were taking in every command as they lined the sidelines, some sitting, others sprawling, all with eyes glued on the constant action.
“Put on your wings, Steven. Be more aggressive, Luke,” the coach shrieked.
“Tony, lets go. Don’t be afraid of kicking the ball. Get in there, Tony. Wait a minute. Hold it, Tony. Don’t kick the player” …Read more…>
