SUNSET BEACH, CALIF.–On a Sunday Drive, you pack the family in the car and cruise down your favorite boulevard to see what’s happening. One of the coolest drives is along “PCH” which is also known as Pacific Coast Highway. Within one mile there are more things to see than we can possibly show in a series of photos to fit on this page. However some of the highlights include:

  • Water Tower House you can rent (costs about $4,000-5,000 per week). Walk on over to….
  • Taco Surf restaurant and bar (sawdust on the floor) you can walk over to from the Water Tower to see bands performing and sip brews.
  • If you want to fill’er up with a tank of gas, yesterday on our Sunday Drive they were charging around $3.83 for regular and $4.04 for premium.
  • Out in front of Mother’s, a tiny dive bar painted bright red with white trim, there’s always an American flag hanging. As you zip by in a car you can see a fan next to the red-checkered curtain in the window and a bra hanging above the fan. Inside the joint is jumping with ice cold beer, a local band blowing the tiny house out and more bras hanging from the ceiling. It’s a tradition for “chicks” to donate their undergarments for decorations.  The finest motorcycles to be had park along the road so you can see them and admire their shine. They’re lined up neatly and packed in tight–makes you wonder how they can get so many riders inside that little juke joint.
  • Then there’s Schooner’s with a freshly painted Statue of Liberty waving out to the Coast audience passing by. Its view is slightly obstructed by the American and California flags blowing in the breeze created by cars. On ground level is the Salty Dog wood carving–the pirate has one peg leg and holds a beer. People can sit in the raised beach chairs next to the wooden dude with a patch on his eye and bandanna on his head, while waiting for a table to open up. Should there be a sudden flood, they can climb a ladder on the roof, grab the wooden boat sitting there, and paddle off for more adventures.
  • Along this mile of sunshine between streets named Warner and Anderson there’s much entertainment for those just passing by! Try it on a Sunday Drive–it’s Classic California.  Here’s a photo gallery of more things to see in this mile of Paradise.
