California Travel Tips

Think Summer is Over? Not So Fast!

Published on: August 26, 2012

Department and discount stores will try to get you to think about “back to school savings”, but it ain’t over yet for summer celebrations. As a matter of fact, one of the biggest has yet to come. Labor Day Weekend in California is one of the most traveled holidays of the year, especially at beaches. With another possible rise in temperatures on the way for coastal and inland California, this could definitely drive traffic to the coast for summer celebrations.

When I worked for a beach destination in California and went to my beautiful seaside office every day to promote its beaches on the Internet,  I called our local lifeguards to determine visitor stats. Our beaches in a town of around 200,000 get about 15 million visitors each year. What I didn’t know was that  Labor Day Weekend can be the busiest weekend at the beaches of any time all year!

If you haven’t made plans for next week, we’ll try to compile some fun things to see and do in California. There are quite a few festivals and events. Some beach towns such as mine are even putting together post-Labor Day events at the beach to try hang onto those who want to linger longer and never let summer end. We call this condition the “Endless Summer”, and it really exists in California, especially at beaches.
