We don’t need beach museums when the beach beckons us to enjoy a live interaction. So who needs surfing museums located in beach destinations where the surf is fine and waves call out for us to ride them?  It turns out we all need surfing museums. They are part of the California allure that includes the promise of sunshine, sandy beaches, and  cutting edge ocean-oriented fashion. The surfing industry and related apparel and products are BIG business in California, and it turns out that surfing museums promote business, California beach lifestyle and culture.  European and international surfers are drawn to California’s surf museums and see them as a way to say hello or connect with other surfers, get local information, and find out what’s happening. Tourists looking for a way to kill some time might enjoy the oddities and extremes of the sport when visiting a museum and seeing a surfboard belonging to Bethany Hamilton.
