Give me three of California’s top 10 cities and I’ll show you how they turn summer fun into child’s play this week. Here goes:

  • SAN DIEGO:  Ferragosto toga party in Little Italy on August 15, 2015 offers San Diego’s own take on the Italian holiday Feriae Augsti. This Pompeii-style holiday requires two years of planning so that every detail adds up to an unforgettable night. Grab tickets while you can: ferragostosd.org
  • LONG BEACH: Mudmania on August 16 at Rancho Los Cerritos invites guests young and old to squish and stomp mud in the adobe pit and play mud games. It’s an annual tradition based on adobe, one of the oldest and most common building materials known to man.
  • SACRAMENTO: Party in the Park is a summer classic combining all-American foods, free swimming, 40 vendors and surprises galore. The first annual festival at Lincoln Village Community Park on August 14 includes an obstacle course and soccer shootout.
