Zucchini, Zootini

There’s nothing tiny, weeny about the upcoming Hayward Zucchini Festival or the Sequoia Park Zoo Zootini.  Nearly 300 miles apart and 5 hours by car, the two events in Eureka and Hayward, California share a common thread. Vegetables will be on the plate at both, and so will tasty beverages for the 21+ crowd. While one festival features photo ops with a mascot dressed as a zucchini, the other event invites guests to mingle and snap pictures with Dorsie, Winky and Thunder at their zoo home. No one has said whether zucchini (which is really a fruit but in culinary context is treated as a vegetable) is on the menu at the zoo gala but there’s plenty to be had in Hayward’s Kennedy Park during its two day fest. If you’ve never tried fried zucchini, this is your chance! And if you’ve never seen bald eagle, Cheyenne, at the brand-new McLean Foundation Raptor Aviary in Eureka’s Sequoia Park, Zootini’s for you!
