Each February the biggest agriculture expo in the world is held in Tulare. World Ag Expo (worldagexpo.com) takes place Feb. 10-12, 2015, attracting thousands of farmers, international manufacturers, researchers, growers, and even students to an event that offers networking opportunities, learning sessions, and a chance to compete in the Top 10 New Products contest. This year another new feature of the Ag Show is guided educational school tours designed to highlight careers in agriculture for youth grades 9 through 12.

“We are particularly focused on highlighting the many different careers in agriculture,” says Kerissa Chapman, IAC’s AgVentures! and Ag Education Coordinator. “The Central Valley is an incredibly diverse agricultural area. Educating students about that is a top priority for us. Even if students don’t ultimately go into agriculture, they are actively learning where their food and clothes come from.”

One of the biggest complaints from farmers and growers is that the legislative decisions and laws are made by people who know nothing about farming. It’s actually true that more than three out of four Californians live along the coast in urban areas with little or no exposure to farm practices.  The ag expo is open to the public, $15 admission.
