Watermelon Festivals and Contests

In case you haven’t noticed, watermelons are plentiful in the stores and it’s the perfect time to brush up on your watermelon eating skills before a big festival or contest. On the 4th of July you’ll find watermelon celebrated in contests and events at the San Diego Fair (July 1-4), Columbia State Historic Park, Fremont, Taft, Long Beach Kids Bike Parade and Pollock Pines.
The biggest watermelon festival in California is the Sunland Watermelon Festival to be held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena this year. It doesn’t happen till August but before it comes Slice of Chico on July 13, 2013, featuring free watermelon slices to all! See more…>
