2012 ended with an amazing blue whale watching season, and now 2013 has begun with major sightings of gray whales. Last weekend the American Cetacean Society/Los Angeles Chapter Gray Whale Census and Behavior Project spotted 23 gray whales in a single afternoon off the coast of Los Angeles, the largest that volunteers have seen in over 30 years. Among the celebrations this spring are Whale Festivals, daily whale watching tours in California beach cities such asĀ  Newport Beach and Long Beach, and many whale displays in aquariums throughout the state.
