Whale Weekend!

This weekend celebrates whales in a big way with three exciting California Whale Festivals!

Dana Point Festival of Whales Mar. 1 & 2, Mar. 8 & 9, 2014,  is the grandaddy of whale festivals hosting an even that continue for two weekends. It includes activities ranging from the Whale Festival Parade to Sand Sculpting Competition, Paddle Boarding, Art Show & Sale, Diamond Dig, Grunion Run, Classic Beachcruiser Car Show, Rubber Ducky Derby, Music in the Park… the list goes on and on in this exciting festival that’s free, taking place along the Dana Point Harbor and beaches.

In addition, Rancho Palos Verdes Whale of a Day festival Mar. 1, 2014 celebrates the Pacific migration of gray whales. Co-sponsored by the City and the docents of Los Serenos de Point Vicente. Tours of the Point Vicente Lighthouse, face painting, children’s crafts, chalk drawing, story telling, games, and whale watching are offered at no charge.

On the North Coast the Point Cabrillo Whale Festival  March 1-2, 2014  at the Point Cabrillo Light Station features a grandstand view of the annual Gray whale migration. Visitors can see tide pool organisms without getting their feet wet by visiting the 250 gallon salt water aquarium at the Marine Science Education exhibit in the restored Blacksmith shop.
