What Have You Done for Me Lately? Does Janet Jackson Song Resonate with Taxpayers?

A song performed by Janet Jackson, “What have you done for me lately?” may be the theme song this year in local, state and national elections.  Every government agency wants more of our money to spend, as all are facing cutbacks. Will taxpayers vote for more taxes on ourselves?  The biggest donors such as the California Teachers Association are giving millions of dollars to support various propositions. If you read the chatter and talk to the average voter, money is tight and getting tighter. It’s going to be interesting to see if voters feel like taxing themselves even more this November 2012!

While control of Michael Jackson’s kids (and ultimately his money) was supposedly unveiled recently in a failed attempt by Janet and several of Michael’s brothers to remove their mom from the scene and take over, the public is singing Janet Jackson’s tune to elected officials–“What have you done for me lately?”

CALIFORNIA PROPOSITIONS TO RAISE TAXES

  • Jerry Brown’s  Prop. 30 will raise the state sales tax. It will also raise income taxes for some Californians.
  • Proposition 38 will raise income taxes on all but California’s lowest earners.
  • Prop 39 will raise taxes on out of state businesses.
