Wiener fans know that this is hot dog season. Wienerschnitzel is by no means the only host to dachshund races but on July 20, 2013 attendance at the Los Alamitos Race Track will prove that it is one of the biggest, most popular wiener dog races on the planet. For fans of adorable hot-dog shaped pets, you may wonder how your dog can be entered into the race…there don’t seem to be any tryouts or a race circuit. The contest is actually based on selection of written pieces by pet owners who tell why they want their dogs in the race. The most compelling essays are selected and those pet owners may enter their dachshunds into the annual event. Unfortunately, the deadline is around June 1 so you are too late for the 2013 contest, but you can enter your dog in other such events around the state.  Other cities in California where you will find dachshund races include Huntington Beach, Sacramento, San Diego, and small dog races in Fresno and Santa Rosa. Here are details.
