The problem with California’s two wildly successful Winter & Holiday Wonderlands in Sacramento (left) and San Diego (right) is that they’re too crowded and waits in line can be up to 90 minutes, according to guests who have visited and survived these holiday attractions. Those who went when the doors opened had better experiences because the lines were shorter at the start.

  • SAN DIEGO: Holiday Wonderland launched in 2014 in Petco Park. Holiday Wonderland is happening every weekend in December, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, plus Dec. 22-24, 2014. Santa’s Workshop at the North Pole, Candyland where visitors can meet a candy princess amid color displays, and Christmas Morning are themed lights displays.Cost: $15 adult. • SACRAMENTO: Global Winter Wonderland at Cal Expo open daily Dec. 19, 2014 to Jan. 4, 2015. Awe-inspiring illuminated landscapes from around the world include Global Village, Dinosaur Maze, and the Enchanted Forest, plus two stages of entertainment. Cost: $16 adult. See: globalwonderland.com
