Woodland Tomato Festival is a free event in the heart of Tomato Country, Yolo County, California. Held August 9, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the festival lets everyone line up and sample 30 varieties of heirloom and hybrid tomatoes grown by both the Master Gardeners and growers selling tomatoes at the market. There’s also salsa sampling, free. Tommy Tomato is the mascot, always wearing a cheerful smile while keeping rotten tomatoes out. Woodland is just the start of delicious tomato fare. One week later Fairfield Tomato Festival takes place dace over two days!

ABOUT: With over 42,000 acres of pure tomato production, Yolo County is both producer and processor. From July to October, large tomato processing plants slice, dice, crush, and cook this multi-purpose product stocking the shelves of supermarkets and restaurants around the country. These tomatoes are a $100 million cash crop–healthy to eat, and vital to the local economy in Woodland.
