World’s Tallest Thermometer in Baker, CA is Hot Topic

BAKER, CALIF.–The famous landmark in Baker (Gateway to Death Valley) is no longer the pride of the town since the World’s Tallest Thermometer went dark.  Millions flick the switch on their holiday trees to electrify the scene, but there are no plans to illuminate the way and get tourists to stop in Baker during long, boring hauls between Southern California and Las Vegas. Starbucks closed four years ago, two of three hotels are shut down, and the thermometer is a shell of its former self since it doesn’t show the current temps.  Some desert locals call it an eyesore and they want it demolished. The owner of Alien Fresh Jerky thinks the giant thermometer should be torn down. He has grand plans to create a UFO shaped hotel some day.  In the midst of this heated topic, the thermometer is really the only thing Baker has going for it right now.
