Janey (1961-2016)

The oldest living Bornean orangutan in the U.S. died at the age of 55 this week at San Diego Zoo after a series of cardiac arrests and decision by medical staff to euthanize her, assured that recovery was not likely. Zoo staff members are mourning her loss, but the public is also taking it to heart:

  • This completely breaks my heart. I am crying real tears. Janey has been a constant friend for many years.
  • You will be missed sweet Janey. Thanks for all the memories you brought to many of your fans and visitors. RIP.
  • Very sad, I will always love Janey.
