E.G. Lewis Dreams of a Colony - June 12, 1914: The cornerstone of a "dream" building was laid by the wife of Atascadero's founder in the presence of a great number of people. Made of steel and concrete construction, the building cost around $200,000. It stands at the head of the great sunken gardens in the center of the Civic Center and heads the group of buildings. It houses the offices of the Holding Corporation, the offices of various departments such as Engineering, Architecture, Horticulture, Agriculture, Land Sales, Titles and Deeds, the Post Office and the entire dome is devoted to the Public Library of the Colony. In the center, extending to the third floor is a beautiful rotunda, to include a display of the Chamber of Commerce. (newspaper article, June 1914)
