Wishing you a very Happy New Year, 2014. I started the Year at The 14th Annual Surf City Splash Event at The Huntington Beach Pier talking with the Honorable Huntington Beach Mayor Matthew Harper. For those of you who get The Local News, stay tuned for My coming article in there.

To the following people Happy Birthday. They are: Huntington Beach Resident Norm Westwell, Huntington Beach Resident Gina Greer, Port Of LA Employee Cynthia Ruiz, Huntington Beach Resident Kristal Slama and Huntington Beach Seashore Pest Control Owner John Etheridge.

This is a note from Huntington Beach Police Chief Robert Handy's Administrative Assistant Karin Reed:

On Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at about 2:30 AM, the Huntington Beach Police Department responded to the area of Goldenwest Street and Yorktown Avenue regarding a traffic collision involving a motorcycle. Arriving officers located a male near the intersection next to blue 2007 Suzuki 750 motorcycle. A 29 year old male, a resident of Huntington Beach, had major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name will not be released until next of kin can be notified. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the Suzuki 750 motorcycle was traveling northbound on Goldenwest when it lost control south of Yorktown. The motorcycle ultimately collided with several fixed objects, including a shopping center sign. The investigators did interview two witnesses at the scene but believe there were other witnesses present when the collision occurred. These other witnesses have not been identified but could provide relevant information as to how the collision occurred. The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the HBPD Major Incident Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T). No citations have been issued and no arrests have been made at this time. Speed does appear to be a factor in this collision.

On December 28th, 2013, at about 4:30 AM, the Huntington Beach Police Department responded to the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Brookhurst Street regarding an injury traffic collision involving at least one sedan and a pedestrian. Arriving officers located a pedestrian lying in the roadway and a silver 2003 Cadillac SLS nearby. ...The Huntington Beach Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene to render aid to the injured pedestrian. The 28 year old male, a resident of Costa Mesa, was pronounced dead at scene by paramedics. His name will not be released until next of kin can be notified. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears the Cadillac SLS was traveling northbound on Pacific Coast Highway when it collided with the pedestrian who was in the roadway. The driver of the Cadillac SLS, a 55 year old male from Huntington Beach, was uninjured. He was interviewed at the scene and later released. The investigators believe the pedestrian was struck by a second vehicle after the initial impact with the Cadillac SLS. The second vehicle and its driver fled the scene and has not been identified. The vehicle would likely have damage to the front end and undercarriage.

The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the HBPD Major Incident Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T). No citations have been issued and no arrests have been made at this time.
