Wishing Huntington Beach Resident Erin Finston a speedy recovery and that her wrist shall heal as good as new.

A Very Happy Birthday to the following people. They are: Sunset Beach Surfer Dogs Co-Owner Gayle Trenberth, KTLA Channel 5 News Anchor Chris Burrous, Main Street Realtors Realtor Kelly Jenkins, My Santa Maria Cousin's Husband Jon Marino, Newport Beach Resident Joshua Stock, FIRST TEAM Realtor Brian Wollner, Huntington Beach Resident Susan Schaben and Newport Beach Resident Jennifer Stock.

This is a note from Huntington Beach Police Chief Robert Handy's Administrative Assistant Karin Reed: Detectives Seek Assistance Solving Residential Burglary Series - The Huntington Beach Police Department has investigated over 20 residential burglaries in the last 60 days. Detectives believe that some of the burglaries are related and they are asking for the public's help to identify those responsible. The Huntington Beach Police Department also encourages the community to be vigilant in reporting suspicious activity to the police department immediately.

The break-ins have occurred throughout the city when no one was home and usually during the afternoon or early evening hours. Although the crimes have occurred throughout the city the highest concentrations have been in the northwest and southeast portion of the city. The suspect(s) often entered the homes through a side or rear door/window and the loss is usually small items such as jewelry. Investigators believe on at least one occasion, three males and a white 4-door Jeep Wrangler with black wheels and paper plates were involved. The below images were captured on a video surveillance system in the area. During other thefts a small white vehicle was also seen.

On January 6th at around 10:24 A.M. the male suspect entered the Ralph's Grocery Store at Garfield and Goldenwest Street. He then approached the Wells Fargo Bank counter and passed a note to a teller demanding money. The suspect fled after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash. The Huntington Beach Police Department along with the FBI are conducting the ongoing investigation.

The Huntington Beach Public Works Department Construction Manager Eric Charlonne says: Post Holiday Christmas Tree and Cardboard Recycling Rainbow Environmental Services is offering free post-holiday recycling of non-artificial Christmas trees and cardboard cartons. Rainbow will pick up Christmas trees and any flattened cardboard cartons that are placed next to the trees from January 2 through January 15, 2013.

To recycle your tree, simply remove all ornaments, hooks, light strings, tinsel, and stand, and place it next to your carts on your trash day. Flatten cardboard and place next to trees. The automated trucks are not collecting trees, so please do not block access to the carts and do not put your Christmas tree in your carts. Larger trees should be cut to six-feet maximum. Multi-family, condo and townhome residents with commercial service (blue dumpster) should place trees to the side of the dumpsters, not in front or on top of the dumpster. Check with your property manager or HOA for other restrictions.

After January 15, tree pickups will have to be scheduled as a 10/4 Pickup arranged directly through Rainbow Environmental.

California Friendly Landscape Workshops Are you eager to spruce up your gardens with California Friendly Landscapes? If so, come join us at the City's Public Works Utilities Yard on Saturday, January 18 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. This first of three free workshops will provide information on landscape design using California Friendly and native drought tolerant plants. There are many reasons to consider a shift in landscaping practices, from the use of water intensive lawns to beautiful and beneficial plants that require less water and are well adapted to our lovely Mediterranean coastal climate. The class will provide very useful information to assist you in your garden design, plant selection, and plant placement.

The second workshop, focusing on soils, fertilizers and plants, will be held on February 22 and the third workshop, focusing on irrigation systems, watering, and garden maintenance, will be held on March 15. Seating is limited.
