Felton, Calif. & Roaring Camp Trains

Felton is a beautiful, little town nestled in and on the edge of the Santa Cruz mountains. It is home to two attractions- Roaring Camp Railroads, an exciting train ride venue with antique locomotives, and Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.

The scenic beauty of the redwood trees that frame the streets and roads of Felton are awe-inspiring. Whether you stroll the small town and see the shops, or head for the state park to hike, bike or take a scenic, woodsy drive, you'll fall in love with Felton's charms.

The closest hotels over in neighboring Scotts Valley range from a Best Western to a Hilton that looks like a stately castle. We've checked them both out and of course, the Hilton is top notch, but you'll pay more for that.

The Roaring Camp Train in Felton offers special events throughout the year. It really shines around holidays when you can book the Christmas lights night time ride, or Easter and 4th of July when patriotic, family-oriented activities offer something for all ages.

There are two rides to enjoy at Roaring Camp. One goes all year long to the top of Bear Mountain on the old steam train. The other is a summer attraction that goes from the mountains to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. It actually lets you off right at the beach!

Felton isn't the biggest star on a map when you're looking to visit Santa Cruz. But for those who have visited and enjoyed its attractions, it is definitely one of the brightest!

Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park is located near Felton on Highway 9 in California State Parks Bay Area region. With approx. 20 miles of trails, and NO bridges at any river or creek crossing, proceed with caution as you go. Camping is available in the state park seasonally. The park contains a section of old growth redwoods that are spectacular to see. Be sure to follow the trails and take the hike. Take water and dress in layers!
