If you feel like you're stepping back in time, get ready to embrace the best of the Old West in Kernville. Combining California history in a downtown right out of the pages of the Gold Rush, with closeness of nature's majesty surrounding this small city, Kernville is one of those hidden gems that outdoor sports travelers know about and don't generally share with the world.

Kernville, Gateway to the Sequoias, is the known as the whitewater rafting capital of California. The mighty Kern River rapids are just the beginning of outdoor excitement.

For the domestic traveler looking to enjoy the best of the west and retain creature comforts, there are hotels, great restaurants, antique and specialty shops, plus a wonderful Kern Valley Museum to explore.

Kern Valley Museum contains a library of many early western movies filmed in the Kern River Valley. You'll see that though you haven't spent much time in Kernville, it is actually well known.

Use Kernville as your base camp and head north to see the giant Sequoia trees in the Trail of 100 Giants and Needles granite formations.
