No matter what California city you live in, street names are fascinating to
study. The other day, I was looking for Defiance Way in San Diego. It got me
to thinking about other unusual names in the state's second largest city.
Women have plenty of streets named after them such as Annette Way, Chelsea
Avenue, Irene
Street, Susie Place and Donna Jean Lane. Men have Franklin
Avenue, Denney Way and Gary Court.
Many San Diegans are from other states and are happy to find Chicago Street,
Denver Lane and Detroit Place. Preachers can walk on Divine Way, Friars
Road, St. John Place and Pray Court.
Automobile fans can drive down Plymouth Court, Ford Street, Dodge Drive and
Chevy Lane. Animal lovers are able to take a stroll on Deer Park Street,
Hummingbird Lane, Fox Avenue, Pheasant Drive and Dove Court.
People who like to garden can visit Flower Drive, Fern Avenue, Tumbleweed
Terrace and Eucalyptus Street. Geographers should like Delta Road and Desert
View Drive. An adventurer might venture onto Explorer Road, Discovery Way,
Old Globe Way or
Prospect Avenue.
Aristocrats will enjoy Duke, Duchess and Derby Streets. The nostalgic-minded
will have a grand old time going down Memory Lane, Old Ranch Road and Old
Town Avenue.
Cooks can easily find Fig, Orange and Peach Avenues, which are not far from
Apricot and Coconut Lanes. Historians might enjoy a visit to Kit Carson
Place, Lindbergh Way or Mission Bell Lane.
As for me, I prefer to meander down Golf Course Drive rather then travel on
Easy Street or Doolittle Avenue.
One last thing, some street names are the same in a lot of California
cities. California Street is not only in San Diego but San Francisco, Los
Angeles, Sacramento, Bakersfield, Auburn and a bunch of other Golden State
towns. I wonder what interesting street names are in your city. Have some
fun and check it out.
