California 10 Largest Cities by Population 2016

State of California Department of Finance maintains data about city populations in California, explaining that local areas need this info to calculate their annual appropriations limit. The State Controller's Office uses Finance's estimates to update their population figures for distribution of state subventions to cities and counties, and to comply with state codes.  There's no denying Los Angeles is California's most populated city. In 2016 it reached and exceeded the 4 million people mark for the first time ever. But all the "Top 10 most populated cities in California" shared growth rates of 0.7% or higher. Los Angeles gained over 50,000 people in this measurement period, which is bigger than the population in 300 of 482 cities in the state!
