Located along Highway 49 along the Gold route in California's historic gold country, Amador City is one of the state's smallest cities with a population of a mere few hundred people (just over 200.) Shops now occupy mining-era buildings in the downtown where the Calico Christmas, candlelight procession, merchant open houses and tree lighting ceremony take place. The winter chill occupies the air as guests step into an artisan bakery or old-fashioned soda fountain.

Santa lights the town Christmas Tree at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Firehouse. Join Santa Claus for photos at the National Hotel after the tree lighting. Mrs. Santa Claus reads to little ones at Hein & Co. Bookstore. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the season while strolling Main Street -- free horse-drawn carriage rides, street entertainers, live music, activities for kids and treats for all at the downtown merchants.
