Located along Highway 49 along the Gold route in California's historic gold country, Amador City is one of the state's smallest cities with a population of a mere few hundred people (just over 200.) Shops now occupy mining-era buildings in the downtown where the Calico Christmas, candlelight procession, merchant open houses and tree lighting ceremony take place. The winter chill occupies the air as guests step into an artisan bakery or old-fashioned soda fountain. The Imperial Hotel (imperialamador.com) welcomes visitors with overnight and longer stay accommodations.
