Tierra Sur Restaurant, Oxnard, CA

Oxnard, Calif.--Herzog Winery in Oxnard includes a gourmet restaurant where the food is fresh, tasty, and draws from local sources to make delicious, cold crisp salads, flavorful entrees, heart-warming soups, and even outrageous desserts. A casually elegant atmosphere can be dressed up for corporate events and weddings, but most the time you'll see tourists, locals, and the business crowd all blend into the dining space that is bright and comfortable during the day, taking on a bit more sophistication as the day turns to night.

If you're looking for something with a variety of items and textures, try the sandwich pictured, a Campagņa  vegetable sandwich (normally served with fingerling potatoes instead of salad shown), black olive tapenade, roasted red peppers and pickled red onions on focaccia.

Other dining options in the lunch menu have included fish, lamb, chicken and unique sides such as pickled Jalapeņos or Fried Sweet Potatoes.

Want to throw something different on your house burger that comes with pickled zucchini and chipotle mayonnaise? Why not add slices of homemade hickory and maple smoked lamb bacon?

Tierra Sur Restaurant got its inspiration from Chef Todd Aarons,  a veteran of Zuni Café in San Francisco and Savoy in Manhattan. The Mediterranean influenced seasonal cuisine is rustic, unpretentious and ingredient driven. Menu items such as pomegranate-marinated lamb, aged rib-eye steak and wild king salmon are cooked outdoors over an open flame. The menu also includes house-made organic corn tortillas with exotic fillings such as birria (chili-braised lamb) with salsa cruda and grilled achiote-marinated red snapper with tomatillo salsa.

Check out the prix fixe wine tasters meal with wine pairings for each course. This is Oxnard's shining star, and best of all, it's not fancy, and it won't break the bank. The food is just fantastic! What more could you want?

Dinner menus heat up with some items prepared on the wood burning grill. Wood grilled organic salmon steak comes with saffron, vanilla anglaise and sugar snap pea salad. Every fine restaurant cooks a duck dish. Try out the chef's Seared duck breast with confit of duck leg and red wine, fig and shallot sauce.

Of course there's a full selection of Herzog wines, and as you depart, you can buy gifts such as bottles of your favorites to take home.
