California Dog Beaches

Dogs on State Beaches Info supplied by California State Parks, always check before going with your dog!

Why take a dog to the beach?  You can see all the great survivor skills emerge. Dogs can catch fish with their mouths & teeth, they can run like Lassie to get help, and after several people drowned recently at California beaches while swimming into currents to try to save their dogs, the dogs simply paddled their way back to shore. Lifeguards warn visitors to beaches that IF your dog appears caught in currents, DO NOT try to rescue your pet.

Most dogs love beaches (some do not) and the experience is a joy for pet owners to share with their beloved best friends.  When Santa Monica tried to get a dog beach during the past several years, the state beaches operating in Santa Monica nixed the idea. If a city controls its sandy shores, it can make rules to permit pets, however.  If you're heading with your dog to the beach, you owe it to your pet and yourself to check first before going.
