Alpine's Viejas Center hosts an annual celebration of the town's recognition by the National Wildlife Federation as "America's 1st Community Wildlife Habitat." Festivities include tours of five beautiful bird- and butterfly-friendly home gardens filled with botanical wonders (ticket price is $15), plus a free festival at the Viejas Outlet Center that includes a plant and art sale, live butterfly exhibit and daily butterfly releases.

Center to Help Instill Respect & Preservation for Garden Wildlife  (CHIRP) is dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of birds, butterflies, and other creatures of habitat, through hands-on and interactive programs and gardens.

The two day event at the Viejas (Casino) Outlet Center includes community and crafts vendor booths, informative displays, and daily entertainment.
