Johnny Appleseed's Birthday! Kids' activities will be held at Apple Hill ranches: Come Celebrate at the Apple Hill Farms!

Annual Kids Weekend & Johnny Appleseed Day at Delfino Farms have been a tradition for several decades. Celebrate the birthday of folk hero, Johnny Appleseed,  a frontier nurseryman who established apple orchards throughout America.

Based on the character of Johnny Appleseed who in real life went by the name of John Chapman (September 26, 1774 – March 11, 1845), Apple Hill celebrates an annual festival in September near the official Johnny Appleseed Day which is September 26. Like the American pioneer who introduced apples to five states though his planting of nurseries, Apple Hill Growers Association has spread its roots and has grown from 16 farmer members to many more, ranking as one of the largest concentrations of apple growers in California.

More than 750,000 visitors have toured the area in past years to visit you-pick farms; buy fresh apples and apple products; chop Christmas trees; eat lunch; and stop at a local brewery, spa and wineries.

Location: Highway 50 (El Dorado Freeway) and surrounding hills between Smithflat and Camino roughly

Spring activities and tastings are featured at  participating wineries. With more than 28 member ranches, farms, breweries, bake shops and B&Bs, visitors can drive through the countryside exploring, stopping to enjoy food, wines, beverages and entertainment. Some offer live music or perhaps a tour, while others will let you interact with their barnyard critters and take great pictures,
