Located in Plumas County not far from Lassen Volcanic National Park, they call the town Greenville and it truly is green and beautiful to see. A business in town, Evergreen, perfectly describes what you see when you visit. However, the town's heritage includes gold discovery on the east side of Eureka Peak, (then known as Gold Mountain.) Nine miners discovered gold on May 23, 1851, and eventually there were over 30 miles of mine shafts with several individual operators and companies. In honor of its heritage, Greenville holds an annual summer celebration in July called Gold Digger Days. The event includes a parade with many floats paying homage to gold, and activities such as searching for gold that kids can't get enough of!
