Plumas Eureka State Park Description: GOLD DISCOVERY DAYS Yearly on the third Saturday and Sunday of July, come sample the life of a gold miner and celebrate the 1851 discovery of gold on Eureka Peak and the bonanza that followed in Johnsville through the 1890's as the Park's historical area comes alive with many demonstrations and activities.

Most venues are free including tours of the Miner's cabin the Moriarty House, blacksmith shop demos, the bushman mill demonstration, the assay office and much more. Candle making, spinning, weaving, woodworking, gold panning, quill pen writing, children's games, ice cream making, clothes washing the 19th century way, butter making, homemade bread and jam, and wagon rides through the town of Johnsville are just some of the activities that can be experienced by the young and young at heart.

You and your family will also have the opportunity to have your family or group's picture taken in costumes from the era for a small charge of $10. per photo.

There will also be guided hikes to historical sites in the Park. Wandering musicians will be entertaining listeners as they view the many exhibits on the state park grounds. Food is available to visitors at a modest price. The park association will host a barbecue each day from 11 am - 3 pm featuring hamburgers, hot dogs, and authentic Cornish pasties together with beverages and all the trimmings.

The Johnsville Historical Society's St. John's Church Museum is also open that weekend to visitors portraying the lives of Johnsville's historic families as well as old maps and photographs of the area in its heyday. Church activities begin daily with their traditional junk sale and Saturday morning also features an old-fashioned bake sale.

The historic society also hosts an architectural walking tour of Johnsville departing from the Park's museum. On Sunday the annual Rotary Club pancake breakfast is held.
