OAKLEY: Kids Fishing Derby

Registration begins at 8 a.m. and sign ups are available at event.

There are many fishing derbies for kids in California but one of the East Bay favorites usually takes place in August before kids return to school. The Oakley Kids Fishing Derby invites children and teens up to age 15 to participate in annual festival of fishing. Registration forms are available at City Hall, 3231 Main Street. Day of at Pier from 8 - 9 a.m. The derby runs from 9 - 11 a.m. followed by a fishing presentation, awards and a free lunch.

The Annual Derby at the Oakley /Antioch shoreline pier is a free derby for kids up to age 15. The event is "catch and release" fishing with prizes awarded for biggest fish, smallest fish, and most fish caught in each of 3 age categories. Free bait available, along with a few loaner fishing poles.

Center to Help Instill Respect & Preservation for Garden Wildlife (CHIRP) is dedicated to the preservation and enjoyment of birds, butterflies, and other creatures of habitat, through hands-on and interactive programs and gardens.

The two day event at the Viejas (Casino) Outlet Center includes community and crafts vendor booths, informative displays, and daily entertainment.
