A multi-acre walk-through installation at Sensorio in Paso Robles by artist Bruce Munro includes more than 58,800 stemmed spheres lit by fiber-optics powered by solar.

An optical fiber is a flexible, transparent fiber made by drawing glass (silica) or plastic to a diameter slightly thicker than that of a human hair. Optical fibers are used in communications, where they permit transmission over longer distances and at higher bandwidths (data rates) than electrical cables. Fibers are also used for illumination and imaging, and are often wrapped in bundles so they may be used to carry light into, or images out of confined spaces, as in the case of a fiberscope.

Outdoor solar lights use solar cells, which convert sunlight into electricity, often stored in batteries for use at night.

Food and alcoholic beverages (this is Central Coast wine & brew country!) are sold. You can't bring in your own food & drinks. Photos for personal use without tripods and special lighting or flash units are allowed, while Bruce Munro holds intellectual rights to the field design that can't be sold as images by visitors.

The fields are ADA compliant which allows wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, braces and mobility scooters brought by disabled visitors to be used so they can experience the light - sight.

Described as the intersection of art, technology and nature,  the interactive light installation offers a grand unveiling of what's to come at this new Paso Robles destination -- a hotel and conference center with exhibits and buildings expected to open in 2021.

Events are not guaranteed. It is your responsibility to confirm before going.
