PAST EVENTS INFORMATION

SAN DIEGO, CALIF.--The Heritage Day Festival and Parade is an annual grassroots event. It has received a proclamation from San Diego City Officials declaring the last Saturday in February as "Heritage Day" for all cultures.  Some years such as 2011 the event spans 3 days as a festival with a gala on Friday night, Parade & Festival on Saturday, and Gospel Concerts on Sunday.

 Gala.  The evening features a soulful dinner and reception with a program to highlight sponsors and vendors of the Heritage International Marketplace. Heritage Parade 

The parade includes bands, drill teams, dance, color guards, floats, step, automobile car clubs and more.   Location: Willie James Jones and Imperial Avenue, continuing east until it reaches Euclid Avenue. Location:  Abraham Lincoln High School, 4777 Imperial Ave., San Diego, CA


Heritage Marketplace

Participants and spectators to come dressed in regalia which represent their culture. At the conclusion of the parade, participants take part in Heritage Day Festivities which will be held at "Market Creek Plaza" in the Heritage Marketplace full of attractions and activities for the entire family. Taste of Heritage Food Court serves multi-cultural foods from different cultures. Children's Play Land has free activities for children ages (5-13). The Heritage Marketplace also features live entertainment for all ages and groups from all cultural backgrounds and more than sixty arts & crafts, retail, information and local business booths.

 
Heritage Day History

The Heritage Day Festival and Parade was founded in 1991 under the non-profit organization, Nu-Way Operation BHILD, Black History is Learning Development program and by Native San Diegans, Steve & Peggy Cooper.

Other San Diego heritage celebrations include Mardi Gras in Gaslamp Quarter and San Diego Pride Festival in the summer at Balboa Park
