San Diego Little Italy Festival Sunday,
October 13, 2013 Time: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. littleitalysd.com
SAN
DIEGO, CALIF.--Little Italy Festa is
one of the largest Italian American
festivals on the West Coast. Over
120,000 attendees each come to taste
tantalizing Italian sausage, pastas, and
a variety of foods to the backdrop of
the glamorous Italian culture,
music and art. Conceived in 1994, Little
Italy Association (LIA) organized
a festival that celebrated Italian
culture not only in the entertainment
provided, on the one stage, but the
types of vendors that were allowed to
display their wares along India Street.
A festival over 10 years old billed as
the largest one-day Italian event west
of the Mississippi is held outdoors in
the Italian section of San Diego along
India Street. Ethnic music and dance are
several highlights to this popular
street festival with vendor booths where
you can buy clothing, artwork and gifts,
all sorts of food, watch entertainment
on stages, participate in Chalk Painting
contest, Bocce Ball Contest and many
Italian culture activities.
Hotels are abundant both at the beach
and in the city near the Festa, and San
Diego is somewhat of a trendsetter for
fun events. Special event planners find
their niche in this geographic location
because the weather is some of the
finest in the U.S. year-round. Like the
Festa, you'll discover numerous street
fairs and celebrations throughout the
year.
Prepare yourself to indulge in over 150
food, art and retail vendors, two stages
(India & Date Street & Grape & India
Street) and authentic Italian
performers. A Gesso Italiana Chalk
Painting Festival, Bocce Tournament,
Stickball and many top Italian
performers such as Antonia Bennett have
been featured.
Little Italy Mercato (Farmers' Market),
Carnevale, Mission Federal ArtWalk,
the Bulls of St. Agata Charge Little
Italy (Lamborghini Show), Trick-or-Treat
on India Street, two Taste of Little
Italys, and the Holiday Tree Lighting
offer a variety of Little Italy
activities throughout the year and
seasons.
San Diego is the Festival
Capital of California (or one of them,
at least.) Here are some other festivals
