San Diego Pride Festival July 21-22, 2012


SAN DIEGO, CALIF.--The annul San Diego Pride Festival is held each July in Balboa Park. Event includes Friday Rally, Saturday Parade, Festival, and night time parties hosted by various clubs and venues.  sdpride.org

Pride Festival . Hours: Saturday, 12 noon-10pm & Sunday, 11 am-8pm Location: Historic Balboa Park, Marston Point, Balboa Park (6th & Laurel St.) 

FRIDAY - Pride Rally  normally launches on Friday evening. "Spirit of Stonewall" Pride Rally begins around 6 p.m.  The Pride Rally is the activist part of the event featuring politicians and community volunteers, leaders and it includes honors to special recipients.  In 2010 a Pride Party was hosted by The Abbey from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., and Pride Parties are always part of the weekend celebration.

SATURDAY - San Diego LGBT Pride Parade. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The parade is 37 years strong in 2011. The parade launches around 11 a.m. and takes place on University Ave. from Norman to 6th St, proceeding through Hillcrest to Balboa Park where the San Diego Pride Festival is held. The parade celebrates diversity and is the largest civic event of the year in San Diego. It includes lavish floats, drag queens, civic organizations and politicians who support LGBT causes. Grand Marshals have included Cloris Leachman and other celebrity guests. Parade began 37 years ago. Its mile-long parade route lined with 150,000 applauding spectators.

SATURDAY & SUNDAY - Pride Festival. The festival goes from Noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday; 11 a.m.  to 8 p.m. Sunday. Location: Historic Balboa Part -- Marston Point, 6th Ave. & Laurel, San Diego, CA. The festival includes multiple live entertainment stages, a Farmers Market, Carnival, Food & Beverage Vendors,  and Beverage Garden with Beer on Tap, Mixed Drinks and Wine.  The event is bilingual, featuring a Latin stage and materials printed in Spanish. Wheelchair accessible, as well.

Children's Garden is a fun-filled place for kids that includes face painting, arts & crafts activities.  Other attractions include art expos, and Queer Hub, a place where people can go and ask questions about LGBT issues.
