SAN DIEGO, CALIF. -- For a premier sand sculpting experience, the San Diego festival offers the world's best.

Friday, September 1, 2017, 9 a.m.

  • 9 a.m. U.S. Sand Sculpting Challenge pier gates open to the public. Vendors sell art throughout day, Arts-for-Learning Kid Zone with sandbox lessons for kids to build sandcastles, water bubbles attraction. Food trucks and vendors sell food & drinks all day.
  • 11 a.m. Bands, singers, dancers  perform throughout day
  • a.m. Master sculptors half-done with their sculptures on Friday
  • 4 p.m. Sculptors two-thirds done by late afternoon
  •  5 p.m.The pier closes for the night
  • 7 p.m. Master Sculptors competition ends for day, continues on Saturday.  

Saturday, September 2, 2017

  • 9 a.m. Gates open. World Masters solo sculptors start their 4th and final day of competition.
  • 9 a.m. Teams start building through Sunday at 2 p.m. 
  • 9 a.m. Dimensional artists exhibit and sell all day. Kid Zone is open all day. Gourmet food trucks.
  • 11 a.m. Wine and beer garden opens. Live entertainment begins.
  • 4 p.m. Voting for Peoples' Choice Awards for the World Masters Class competition. Voting till 7 p.m. or  Sunday 9 a.m.-2 p.m. 
    7 p.m. Pier closes for day.

Sunday, September 3, 2017, 9 a.m.

  • 9 a.m. Gates open. World Master sculptors works' judged. Team competition continues through 2 p.m. Art vendors, Kid Zone, Gourmet food trucks, Peoples' Choice Awards voting opens (runs till 2 p.m.)
  • 11 a.m. Live entertainment, Beer and wine sales begin.
  • 2 p.m. Team Competition ends.
  • 5 p.m. Award Ceremony. 

Monday, September 4, 2017, 9 a.m. 

  • 9 a.m. Gates open for Sand Sculpture viewing. Art vendors, food trucks, Kids Zone with huge sandbox, are all open.
  • 11 a.m. Live entertainment, wine and beer sold.
  • 2 p.m. Sculptor giving lessons on how to build sandcastles.
  • 5 p.m. Pier gate closes, event ends.  

Tuesday, September 5, 2017 Sculptures, sand removed, clean up.

Watch the best of the best challenge each other in a contest featuring scenes made of sand. The talent is absolutely incredible! In addition to the sand sculpting, there are bands performing, artwork and vendors selling items, and food vendors selling eats. Held in the lively shoreline area of downtown San Diego, everything's nearby such as Gaslamp, cruises, shopping and dining.

San Diego is one of California's top beach destinations, offering the perfect escape for Labor Day Weekend when the sandcastle contest is typically held.
