There are some places you can step into and just imagine yourself transported to another place and time. San Juan Bautista is exactly that kind of place! Next to the San Juan Bautista Mission are 1800s era museums in a town square. Plaza Hotel, the Zanetta House/Plaza Hall, the Plaza Stables, and the Castro-Breen Adobe don't just look authentic, they feel that way, too. That's why the Living History Days offer a step back in time that doesn't require much effort to realize.

Women making tortillas, men working next to a fire in a blacksmith shop, the historic jail with its echoing, transient vibe, and an early American settler's cabin--very rustic.

Open daily for self-guided tours, if you just happen to be in town or passing by, do go out of your way to see this fantastic place. San Juan Bautista is 3 miles east of Highway 101 not far from Gilroy (the Garlic Capital). From Hwy 101, go east on Highway 156, take a left at the light onto The Alameda; from Hollister or Pacheco Pass on 156 westbound, take a right at the same intersection.

Events are not guaranteed. It is your responsibility to confirm before going.
