Located in the Saratoga hills, Hakone occupies more than 18 acres of chaparral, woodland and manicured Japanese gardens. Tea is an important beverage to the Japanese and there are specific ways to enjoy it. A tea ceremony is one such event. Come to Hakone on the 3rd Sunday of the month between April and November to sip the beverage in an authentic setting. Extra fee is charged for this optional offering at the museum.

In addition to the monthly tea ceremonies, Daicha Kai (Grand Tea Gathering) is one of the most important and enjoyable tea events in the greater Bay Area. It brings together tea practitioners of different tea traditions and enthusiasm of its participants. The hope is that all who practice tea will desire to attend in order to share tea with their fellow practitioners at one of the few sites where this type of events is possible outside of Japan.

Hakone, one of the oldest Japanese gardens and estates in the Western Hemisphere, turned 100 in 2015.
