An educational event demonstrating how wool from the backs of sheep (and other fiber animals) becomes the sweater on your back. Lots of hands-on activities for everyone.

About: This unique mill specializes in processing wool to customers' orders. Finished products made from wool and other fibers produced by our own sheep and those of local wool growers are also available.

Yolo Wool Mill started in 1982 as a washing plant through the encouragement of the local group, New Franklin Society. Seeking environmentally friendly ways to develop local resources, a wool washing plant sprang out of the sessions and discussions.

In 1992 owner Jane Deamer purchased an antique card and a spinning frame, a 1923 Davis and Ferber card and a 1941 spinning frame from Warren Woolen Mill in Connecticut.

From those fairly humble beginnings Yolo Wool Mill has grown, acquiring textile manufacturing equipment that now allows it to offer a full line of wool products to shepherds who want their wool processed for their own use or for resale. The plant offered a range of products from scoured fleeces to fine worsted yarn.
