If you've never heard of Yreka, California, much less considered visiting, that's OK. One of the friendliest places among top 100 Best Small Towns doesn't get all excited if it's not on your radar. Locals don't require validation– they have three sets of mountains to gaze at on a daily basis! Located 22 miles south of the California-Oregon border next to Interstate 5, the gold rush era town features over 70 well-preserved pre-1900 houses listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.

Merchants, vendors, music and food are all on display throughout the day. Yreka Gold Rush Days even re- enacts the famous fights of the Old West with street theater gun fights by the Cowboy Action Shooters. Yreka transforms historical downtown into a step back in time festival honoring our Gold Rush heritage. Enjoy Old Time reenactments in front of the historic Franco American Hotel, gold mining, vendors, food, activities for kids, historical hayrides, pony rides and more!
