UPDATE: Hoberg's Resort on Cobb Mountain was destroyed in the "Valley Fire" on Saturday afternoon, September 12, 2015. The September wildland blaze wiped out more than $2 million in renovations recently made to the historic resort, first established as a hotel in the 1880s.

COBB, CALIF.–Set in the lush, golden hills approx. 100 miles north of San Francisco is an amazing retreat where famous people have stayed. If you're looking for some magic, it's back at Hoberg's Club Resort, known for its hospitality since 1855 (that's 157 years!)

Clark Gable vacationed there, as did members of the San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Seals. At its height, Hoberg's Resort hosted more than 1,000 guests per night who came to dance to musical acts–Tommy Dorsey, Xavier Cugat and Merv Griffin–just a few of the all-star cast. The staff of 30 waitresses, 15 maids, 10 bartenders, a 12-piece orchestra, 20 in the coffee shop, a swimming instructor, a physician in residence, a barber, hairdressers, and more, all catered to the crowds who fell in love with the magical place. Sold to a private owner for nearly 40 years, the classic vacation and music venue was recently purchased when its owner, the man who popularized transcendental mediation (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) passed away in 2008. With lots of money and hard work, the fantastic retreat has regained its former luster. Hoberg's Club Resort is now open for business as a music venue and great California escape once again. Hoberg's is back! Concerts and festivals are featured on the website, as well as lodging information: hobergsclub.com

Other unique accommodations worth checking out include Nick's Cove in Marshall and Timber Cove Inn in Jenner.
