California Beach Hotels are the top choice for vacations

With rare exception, the closer the beach, the higher the price of accommodations. Even within a hotel property ocean view rooms cost more. Beach access and beach view rooms or suites are seldom considered cheap deals. In the 2020s prices (including booking fees) begin around $200 as of this posting. Along 1,000 miles of coastline in California there are a few sweet deals, generally in out-of-the-way places.

Prices can be cheaper on week days than weekends if the hotel doesn't cater to business conferences, but that's not a given. Price fluctuations can be based on supply, demand, weather conditions, and even natural disasters. Flexibility in booking may help you get better rates, and sometimes you can negotiate a lower price. When popular beach festivals take place, you may want to book way ahead or you'll be forced to stay inland.
