We were driving past our neighborhood grade school (Hope View) on the
way to the store today and did a double take at the parking lot. Spread
across the entire asphalt in front of the school were thousands of boxes
embossed with colors green, red, yellow, purple, orange and blue.
Pulling over to check it out, we discovered that the boxes were filled
with cases of Girl Scout Cookies -- 3,187 cases X 12 = 38, 244 packages
of cookies to be exact!
35 volunteers dressed in blue jeans and jackets were out with clipboards
waving traffic as parents and their kid-Scouts from Huntington Harbour
SU 303 which includes 45 Girl Scout troops throughout area. Picking up
their loads the parents and their kids are assigned to sell cookies
Valentine's Day (Feb. 14) to March 8, 2020, at Albertson's at Bolsa
Chica & Heil, and Trader Joe's in the Harbour Mall, Ralph's on
Warner and Von's in Marina Village across from
Marina High School.
The two volunteer SU leaders in charge of distribution were Misty Cross
and Elisabeth Baudisch. This was the third year the distribution took
place at Hope View School and they thanked the Ocean View School
District for their enthusiastic cooperation in letting the Scouts use
the parking lot on a Saturday morning when no soccer or sports events
were scheduled.
If you're interested in buying cookies, look for Scouts in front of
locals stores or maybe knocking on your door. Here is a cookie finder:

Girl Scout Cookie Prices Are Going Up In Some Areas
The cost of a box of cookies this year is $5-6,
with each box now costing $1 more. For most varieties, that works out to
a 25% increase.
The Girl Scout Cookie Program will run in Orange County from Sunday,
January 26 to Sunday, March 8, 2020 with Girl Scouts selling cookies
online and door to door in their neighborhoods. Cookie booth sales in
front of grocery stores and retail locations begin Friday, February 14.
Scouts typically
receive over 60% of sales per box.
According to Interbake Foods which operates ABC Bakers (abcbakers.com) division
contracted by Girl Scouts to produce and private-label the Girl Scout
Cookies brand, their company has a comprehensive program to encourage
goal setting and marketing so youngsters and teens learn how to succeed
in sales. A 10-year-old Girl Scout near Perris, Calif. sold over 4,000
boxes of cookies and won a trip to the cookie factory in Iowa as
top-seller! Money raised by scout troops may fund field trips, outings,
craft & supplies, and service projects such as care boxes sent to
military overseas. If you don’t want cookies, you can donate cash.
COOKIES: According to ABC Bakers they are one of two companies in the
U.S. manufacturing Girl Scout Cookies. They are required each year to
produce several top-selling items such as Thin Mints and Caramel deLites.
All cookies are kosher, and some are vegan and/or gluten-free.
